Dido Posted 22 April , 2014 Share Posted 22 April , 2014 I found a small note in a 1919 newspaper mentioning that "the British yacht VICTOR long ago sank at Psara Island [in Aegean] was salvaged and will be towed to Piraeus" by the Greek salvor L. Matsas. The vessel is report of 170 tons. I suspect that she might have been an yacht requisitioned by the RN and lost during WWI.Do you have anything more on such a vessel? Keep in mind that there is a chance of mispelling and she could have been named Victory, Victoria or something relative.
horatio2 Posted 22 April , 2014 Share Posted 22 April , 2014 No RN hired yacht called VICTOR was sunk in WW1. (Yacht VERONA sank 24 Feb 1917 in UK waters.) The only RN ship VICTOR was a tug. VICTOR II was a hired trawler.

Dido Posted 23 April , 2014 Author Share Posted 23 April , 2014 Thank you both for your feedback. I am familiar with SHEMARA/VICTORIA and I don't think that she is the ship in question. What about the tug VICTOR and the trawler VICTOR II ? Is there any info on their post 1918 whereabouts? I understand that they do not resemble the "yacht" that is described in the article but the journalist might be wrong in the type of the ship.
