William Simon Stephens

Dear All,

I am researching my grandchildren's ancestors and have been given some limited information by one of their great Aunts, who will be 90 this year. Her father was William Simon Stephens, born 1895 in Liskeard, Cornwall. She has told me that he was taken prisoner in WW1 and sent to the Salt Mines - didn't see daylight for 11 months.

Is anyone able to help me with more information about him please?

Kind regards, Richard

Sadly, no. I asked if he was in the Devonshire Regiment, as we all now live in Devon but she said, no he was in a Cornish Regiment as they lived in Liskeard at the time. I don't know of any regiments that were, in particular, Cornish.

Thank you. I'll have a look at them and see if I can identify him. Do you know if there is a list of POWs who were sent to the salt mines please?
