Hey all, morning!

Ive got an old postcard portrait of a young army serviceman, slightly blurred but cap badge appears to be RAMC.

Trying to find out some info on the chap.

Reverse of the card reads:

Pte Botcherley (? correct spelling)

No: 64037 A section

102 A

BEF

France.

No date on card but very typical of WW1 era.

Tried to look him up via genesreunited site but nothing on there but I note ancestry has a medal record for a V Botcherley.....? the same person. (but at the mo I am not subscribed to ancestry!)

So if there is any chance of help that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all,

Neal.

Any ch

There is a R.A.M.C. Private William Brown Botcherby with No. 64037 Victory Medal and British War Medal (no Star).

Lived approx. 1896 to 1963 (died at Darlington). A miner living at 22 Reservoir Street Wardley Colliery, Heworth, Durham in 1911.

There was a man of the same name in the 79 Armoured Engineers Squadron, Royal Engineers awarded the Military Medal in WW2. His name appears to be unique so possibly the same man. EDIT: There is a William B Botcherby born in Durham in 1918, so more likely to be this man, though probably related, his son perhaps?

Steve.

You can download the medal card from the National Archives for a small fee.
