7th South Staffs 23/11/1916

Hi , talking to a relative of a guy in above killed on The Somme 23/11/16, front line by Bois de Holland, but according to Ray Westlakes book they were away from the front line and in Varrennes on 16/11/16, anyone throw a light on this?

Hi Tony

8 killed, 5 wounded, 2 shell shock due to shelling. In the line at Beaucourt Sur Ancre.

Who was your man ??

They returned to the trenches near Beaucourt on 20 November, including occupation of posts at Bois d'Hollande (war diary). Casualties are named each day during this time in the front line. The war diary is digitised and is hand written: Graeme, is your image from the transcript at the museum?.

Just wondered - I have a particular interest in the battalion as my granddad's cousin served with it from the start up to his death on 7 June 1917.

Presuming hes 13261 Albert Baker, hes mentioned as being killed between 7 and 10th June 1917. I have the pages if you want them.
