Sepoy Posted 11 April , 2014 Share Posted 11 April , 2014 Following a discussion on a local history Facebook site concerning St Michael's Abbey, Abbott David Cuthbert Brogan has written a very interesting article covering the Great War and the involvement of members of the Abbey Community. Members were even called up by the French and British Authorities and served with distinction in France and Italy. Some failed to return.... This has been added to the Abbey's website http://www.farnboroughabbey.org/the-abbey-and-the-first-world-war/ The Abbey is best known for being the last resting place of Napoleon III; the Prince Imperial (killed during the Anglo Zulu War in 1879) and the Empress Eugenie. Empress Eugenie turned her home at nearby Farnborough Hill into an Officer's Hospital catering for Belgian and British wounded. The French Government refused to allow French Officers to enter her home. Sepoy
