Dunno about the list but I've emailed to the Museum to see if they can put me in touch with the article's author. I'd guess McCarthy may be easier to find than Lane. I'm not sure from the article if they are modern day researchers or contemporary to the war. Can't find a C J McCarthy on the 1911 census for Dundalk.

I wonder if he's the CJ McCarthy of Dundalk on this membership list for the Society for Nautical Research?

Apologies Clive - should have acknowledged your research on the previous thread. Still drawing a blank on Sergeant King here.

I wonder if the find my past artillery attestations might be of use in finding Sgt. King? How easy to use are they?

That record found when looking for possible Mercantile Marine non comms is what started this quest to find out more information.

If King didn't return to his unit, and the circumstance of his death and identity were unclear, might he be listed as AWOL / a deserter? Weren't lists of deserters made for the police? Was a list made of 'absent' soldiers at the end of the war?

Ancestry's Ireland, Civil Registration Deaths Index, 1864-1958 has casualties registered 'Oct-Nov-Dec 1916 Kilkeel' some just gender, some neither gender or age. Chilling. No 'King' of course....!
