Bob Chandler Posted 26 March , 2014 Share Posted 26 March , 2014 Evening all, Trying to find out where 26 CCS was located in June 1917, can anyone help? As always, apologies if I haven't spotted an existing thread on this topic. Cheers, Bob
apwright Posted 26 March , 2014 Share Posted 26 March , 2014 26 CCS didn't come to Salonika! It was at Gallipoli, then Egypt and Palestine. It seems to have been at El Arish from March 1917 until at least the end of that year. Adrian
Bob Chandler Posted 26 March , 2014 Author Share Posted 26 March , 2014 That's what my own 'research' seemed to indicate. Must have been a mistake in the newspaper. What would have been the most likely CCS for someone wounded in the Causica area and buried at Karasouli? Cheers Bob
apwright Posted 26 March , 2014 Share Posted 26 March , 2014 Probably 28 CCS at Karasouli. Adrian
Bob Chandler Posted 27 March , 2014 Author Share Posted 27 March , 2014 Many thanks Adrian, that makes a lot more sense. Just been looking at some photos of 28 CCS on the IWM website, what a desolate spot. Cheers Bob
zartas Posted 27 March , 2014 Share Posted 27 March , 2014 Morning Bob, Here's an extract from "History of the Great War, Medical Services General History" Vol. IV When the advance from the entrenched camp took place casualty clearing stations were allotted to corps areas. Nos. 28 and 31 went to forward positions in the XIIth Corps area. No. 28 CCS. went at first to Janes, in August 1916, but shortly afterwards to Karasouli, on the Vardar Valley railway line, near Lake Ardzan, where it remained till November 1917, when it was transferred again to Janes, till March 1918. It was then established at Oreovica, in the hills about three or four miles north of Karasouli, and remained there till the final operations in September.
