Territorial units in France in 1914?

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone with thoughts about some Territorial units, perhaps Field Ambulances being in action in 1914.

There may be other logistical units involved also.

Many thanks

Stephen

The reason I'm asking is that I'm designing museum exhibition panels for Soldiers of |Oxfordshire Museum, have read the Official History 1914 Vol. II page 46 - which states that the Oxfordshire Yeommanry (Hussars) were the first Territorials in action on October 5th 1914.

I have had several conversations with people refuting this - but as yet seen no evidence to the contrary.

If you do I'd like to hear from you.

This is genuine query which will contribute to the final panel wording.

Do please contribute.

Thank you

Stephen

Stephen - you might find Forum member pmaasz worth a PM: he's connected to the QOOH so may well have some comment for you. He would certainly agree that the regiment were the first Territorials in action (when I rashly claimed the honour for the London Scottish!).

Thanks Steven.

Yes, I've spoken to Peter, though not about this. I do understand the Yeomanry claim.

I'm interested in the 'claims' that there were Territorials in action at Le Cateau for example Field Ambulances.

All the best.

Stephen
