I would be grateful for any help in tracing a Michael Larkin from Lorrha, Tipperary, who was born (abt) 1896, lived all his life in Ireland until he died 1981.

I've narrowed it down to:

1 Leinster R 5321 - Connaught Rangers 15107
2 RFA 178690/677158
3 RE 129094 - R Fus 1824 - RE 677158
4 West Riding (3/29226) - Somerset LI - Lab Corps - RE
5 Lancs Fus 27140 Lab Corps 375127
6 Seaforths 3056/200813
7 RDC 33441
8 Newfoundland 2408
The Lancs & West Riding men may tie up with damaged Ancestry attestation documents showing English addresses.
Any help ruling any of these men in or out gratefully received.

Will,

If I was a betting man I would say "1 Leinster R 5321 - Connaught Rangers 15107" is your man. I am basing this on the following from SDGW -

Name: Michael Meara

Birth Place: Lorrha
Residence: Lorrha, Co. Tipperary
Death Date: 10 Oct 1918
Death Location: France & Flanders
Enlistment Location: Birr, King's Co.
Rank: Private
Regiment: Connaught Rangers
Battalion: 5th Battalion
Number: 15148
Type of Casualty: Killed in action
Theatre of War: Western European Theatre
Comments: Formerly 5320, Leinster Regt.
5320 and 5321 in Leinster Reg and both from Lorrha, Co. Tipperary, both transferred to the Connaught Rangers with similar numbers?

John

Thanks for taking a detailed look. Successive Leinster numbers too. That's a remarkable insight. I'm sure you have the right man.

Many thanks

Will

Thanks John. He has a number of good posts. Incidentally traced Michael Meara to Vis-en-Artois Memorial.

As a postscript to this - I've discovered that Michael Meara was his best friend. They'd had a few drinks and went off to enlist.
