Welcome to GWF!

Yes, this is a WW 2 piece, with "bakelite" grips - note the "Waffnamt" stamps on the pommel, characteristic mumbers, etc., with a mis-matched scabbard. Best to look around a WW2 site for this as I will get my wrists slapped if I do all the marks! Try Gunboards Forum

Any idea about F.M.G.Z.xxx ??
Stamped on 84/98 n.A.S. Abg  W15

Only Z mark I know is for Zug ( Lazarett), and looks no sense here.

Can we have a photograph please?

Might be "Festungs.Masc.Gew. Zug" with Zug for a platoon - although these Festungs.Masc.Gew. marks are usually in the form of "F.M.G.A. XXX", for Festungs.Masc.Gew.Abteilung.

OR, even Flak Masc.Gew. Zug.? See, e.g., the discussion at: https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/207144-any-comments-on-this-german-marking/?tab=comments#comment-2040883

Hello!

Do we have a number?

Festung MG normally only had Abteilungen, Trupps and companies. There were only a few Züge (plural of "Zug")

I´d say, it´s a "Feld-MG-Zug". There were numbers 1-330 and bavarian 1-38.

These Züge later formed the MG-Abteilungen of the infantry-regiments.

I agree absolutely with the opinion of PRUSSIAN.

Here are some similar unit markings with Gernika's unit marking, from my collection.

"I stand corrected", as they say, following - according to Wikipdia - the example set by John Dryden in The Maiden Queen (1668)... That 3-digit number clinches it really...

Gernika, where possible when making a query, let us have all the information about the mark and if possible a photograph - makes things easier:thumbsup:
