Headstone For Web

I found part of a headstone used to fill a pot hole near Bois Francais near Fricourt. It has a fragment of a name which I think is BLACK, no more letters after the name. He died ? October 1917, the regimental badge is puzzling. The nearest I have found is the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders but the garland is missing and it has a text on a long banner over the top, it definitely has a figure grasping the cross of St.Andrew. I can't seem to find a match on CWGC site. I attach a photo if it helps.

Hello Graham,

You should pass this information to the CWGC.

They will be able to identify this using their library of Regimental insignia.

Kindest Regards,

Tom.

Black Watch.

That same design has been used on the graves of Black Watch soldiers.

Here's one:-

and another:-

There are a considerable number of men from the 42nd who lost their lives in October 1917, but how many in that area?

Here's hoping someone can identify whose grave it came from and remedy the situation.

Sorry I have been stupid - of course the name 'Black' is not his name but his regiment! I should have known the headstone has the name first, underneath is the regiment then the badge. Sorry all if I have wasted your time.
