Irish soldiers in WW1 - Ptes McBreen & Reilly.

Recommended Posts

I came across two names today and am trying to sort out their origins.

Pte James McBreen, son of Michael & Eliza of Kilnacreeva, Stradone, Co Cavan. 12 Bn Argylls, killed Doiran 19 Sept 1918.

Pte James Reilly, 16129 B Coy 2nd Cameronians, of Crosserlough Co Cavan, killed Loos 10 Mar 1915.

I known the 1901 and 1911 censi for the county. Both in Scots units, although Cavan had connections with Scotland it seems unusual for RC troops to be in what locals saw as "Protestant" regiments.
