OK you emmagee boys and girls your expertise needed!

I have an MIC which reads first unit Middlesex Regt then final unit MGC. However the medal roll code is MMG etc etc. Would it be wise to conclude that this soldier was in the Motorised MGC. He has a 70000 number which would seem to indicate a Heavy Branch MGC affiliation.

Ian

MGC Motors Branch had the block of service numbers from 79201 - 81200 plus other odds and sods. MMG on the War & Victory Roll is most certainly this branch and can be found in part of WO 329 / 1770 and in WO 329 / 1771.

Can I assume from Ian's first posting that numbers beginning 70000 were allocated to HBMGC? If so how high did these numbers run to?

The short answer is no. Of the 6 men that I have medals for in the 70000 number range only 2 were Motors or Heavy Branch the other 4 were Infantry.
