OK Pals,

By popular request I am going to start listing the medals acquired in this once in a lifetime find. I have bought them however to research and sell primarily at Fairs, however if there is anything listed you would like or is missing from your collection, send me an e-mail.

1. 34636 Pte E W KEEN Worcestershire Regt (BWM)

Ernest Keen was called up for service on 18 Aug 1916, when he was 33. He was 5' 6'' tall, came from Sharkhill (?) in Birmingham, and was a Watch & Clock Repairer by trade. He was gassed on 5 Aug 1917. He then transferred to the RFC (136482 2AM) on 14 Feb 1918 and the RAF on 1 Apr 1918. He is listed on the RAF Muster Roll as a Photographic Camera Repairer with the rank of AM3. He was promoted AM2 on 1 Sep 1918 and reclassified AM1 on 1 Oct 1918. He was again reclassified an LAC on 1 Jan 1919. He was demobbed on 12 Oct 1919 with Medical Grade B2 and transferred to the Reserve on 30 Apr 1920.

2. 34552 Pte E REAVY Manchester Regt (BWM)

MIC indicates that Edwin Keen was entitled to a pair. His medal roll indicates that he served with the 17th, 2/8th & 2/5th Bns. He was possibly one of the men from the 17th Bn who avoided capture on 21 Mar 1918.

3. 4883 Pte J Burton Worcestershire Regt (BWM)

MIC indicates that John Burton was entitled to a pair and a Terrier who served with the 5th Bn.

More to come as and when I go to Kew and am not slaved by a certain Webmaster ;)

Chris,

Thanks - whilst the research is fun I am ever mindful of those here who, unlike me, don't live 8 miles from the PRO.

Pals should also note that I have 3 X 1939/45 Stars, 1 X France & Germany Star and 2 X Defence Medals now with ribbons up for grabs from this collection. More to come when I get more ribbons in.

Just a thought....if you are going to be spending a lot of time at Kew i would really appreciate any information you can find on the four soldiers in my signature. It means arranging holidays etc for me to go so i would appreciate your help. I would gladly recompense you for any costs you incur etc.

I also appreciate that your going to be extremly busy with this lot so it ok to say 'no' and i wont expect anything straight away!

Thanks,

marc

Marc,

When not doing things for myself, I do paid research.

There are others here who you could approach - start a thread in the PRO section. If someone is willing to do it they will answer. Otherwise contact Chris Baker, the Webmaster, who runs Great War Family Research.

Ian :)

Thanks to everyone for the PMs. I am not however producing a list straight away. These medals were purchased for my enjoyment and fun in researching and then trade. I am in no rush to get 'them out on the streets'. However I will be listing them, as long as this does not break forum rules, and those I do are for sale unless otherwise stated.

I should add that a donation will be made to the forum for every medal sold through here :)

Hi Ian,

Have a great time with these medals. I am firmly a member of that group of collectors who feel that the research is everything - great fun, informative, and often very rewarding.

So, speaking as I hope an impartial observer (I have no personal interest in the medals in this hoard as they fall outside my areas of interest), enjoy yourself.

Cheers from Canada,

Terry
