Mystery (to me) tools.

The introduction to ‘The First Word War’ on BBC Four is a series of photographs. Among them is a group of five men with ….what? And how are they used?

Just curious.

If I could see them I might (or might not) be able to comment -- as I cannot for me it is a mystery wrapped in an enigma as another Mr C might have said.

The above is a "Peavey" used with the "Cant Hook" to handle logs. After 45 years my Forestry Degrees finally paid off!

If this is the picture, the men belong to the Canadian Forestry Corps and the photo has been discussed on the forum before, not only regarding the tools but also in relation to the Frenchman on the end, who, if I remember correctly, was thought to be a liaison officer. The photo is an original autochrome colour image, not colourised.
