Hi,

embarking on a search for info on my grandfather who joined from australia. He began in the Royal Horse Artillery then transferred to the Royal Field Artillery. Can anyone help me with some abbreviations.

what does SGF stand for? His id tag says SGF

He is described as being in DAS Brigade, 46th Division. then there is a number "5708-2" Can anyone explain this to me?

What does DAS stand for?

On his gas bag/mask it says "C/148". What does this refer to?

thanks, andrew James

Andrew

Could C/148 stand for C Battery, 148 Brigade? This was a unit of the 30th Division. He could have been transferred to another unit, or simply picked up somebodyelse's haversack.
