enoch beard Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 you will probably find he is not in the 1901 census because he might have been recalled from the reserve in the boer war
Guest Pete Wood Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 (edited) If he joined the army in 1891 and is missing from the 1901 census, I believe there is a chance he was serving in the Boer War.... Does this fit with known family evidence? Any family photos of the chap in uniform....?? Sorry to repeat you Enoch (I was writing as you were posting). Edited 7 October , 2004 by Racing Teapots
KONDOA Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 The following strike me as interesting especially the first one. This assumes our subject has no middle name? Armstrong, Henry Northumberland Fusiliers 4919 Private Northumberland Fusiliers 266135 Private Armstrong, Henry Northumberland Fusiliers 3rd Battalion 19/558 Private Armstrong, Henry Northumberland Fusiliers 28/370 Private Armstrong, Henry Northumberland Fusiliers 22/203 Private... Armstrong, Henry 5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers Captain
enoch beard Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 no problem racing , i might be right for a change!
SMG65 Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 j.r.f Why not try the War Pensions Agency. The last address I had for them was Norcross, Blackpool, FY5 3WP, (Tel 01253 858858). Surely from when and where he drew a pension they can give you his full details and service number. Sean

Bernard_Lewis Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 Not certain but there is the PIN series of records at the National Archives? Or do they only cover officers? I've used them - but the memory is going fast!
