Hello Everyone

I'm going to be in Wellington at Archives New Zealand tomorrow ~ Thursday 20th February 2014. If you would like a New Zealand soldiers war service file digitised please add name to list NOW!

I can do ten file requests for forum members, over the counter requests are free so this wont cost you anything [normally $25 NZD each if ordered online in New Zealand] The files will be digitised and available to view on line within two weeks.

Please check that your soldiers file is available to be digitised by checking the Archives New Zealand website, use the 'simple search' option http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/

Post your soldiers full name and service number here and I will order for you.

Wendy

Foot note: While I'm very happy to order bulk files for individual members of the forum I will use my discretion and allow members who only want one or two files or haven't had files digitised before to go first.

Hello Nigel

TODD Ernest - WW1 15044 - Army. Has already been digitised

On your website under Battlefield tours - Cemeteries of France and Flanders, is there any mention of the London Rifle Brigade Cemetery in Ploegsteert

How many New Zealand soldiers do you think you may have photos of, approximately, the list is very looooong

Hi Wendy

If possible, I would be most grateful if you could order the following service documents (if possible). I have noticed that Hawkins and Hirons may have served during WW2, but they do not show on the WW2 Nominal rolls - are they available????

Please accept my sincere thanks for your help.

HAWKINS, John Conroy - WWI 2/1790, WWII 822352 - Army (R24059807)

HESSELL, Victor - WW1 10/1522 - Army (R16794810)

2/576 Gunner Thomas George Hirons, 2nd Battery, New Zealand Field Artillery.

I have newspaper pictures of 39 men where the caption indicates NZ forces - I also have a lengthy article entitled "With the New Zealand Forces" (BNL 20-09-1915) ... pm your email address to me and I will send list.

The Battlefield Tour articles have an Ulster Division perspective I have had a quick skim through them and could nt see Rifle Brigade content, but I do have 27 newspaper pictures of Rifle Brigade men.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Nigel

P.S. That Ernest Todd was born in England so is unlikely to be my man :(

Hello Sepoy

I have ordered up your three soldiers

RE: John Conroy HAWKINS and Thomas George HIRONS - You will be lucky and get both files, WW1 and WW2. Archives NZ have only just advised that all soldiers that served in both wars are to have both files digitised. Usually you have to apply to New Zealand Defence Force to get WW2 files released. Well done my friend, you will get some great information to go on with...

I have the name Ernest Victor Todd ... his record is held under Victor Todd rather than Ernest Todd :D

Off topic a bit, but I have a man whose NZEF unit is listed as CTB - any idea of the full name of the Unit?

CIB = Canterbury Infantry Battalion

Not sure about CTB

What is the chaps name and I will have a look

Wendy

Wendy

Private Thomas Moore but CIB could have been mis-transcribed as CTB in the PCI Roll of Honour

I have uploaded NZEF newspaper items to photobucket - http://s832.photobucket.com/user/GWBP_NH/library/NZEF?sort=3&page=1

You should be able to download items of interest from there.

Thanks,

Nigel

Thanks Nigel

NZEF photo bucket album is very interesting

Check out the men named Thomas Moore on the New Zealand Cenotaph there is one chap from the Canterbury Infantry Battalion that may be of interest to you here

Just a short note to thank you for requesting the files for the above men, which are now available.

Mr Hirons downloaded - two more to go! I know what I will be doing this evening :) (At least it will keep me out of the pub!)

Many thanks

Sepoy
