Details of this exhibition from the BBC website. The first sketch in the article really caught my eye. Almost too beautiful to be war?

Thanks for posting this SeaJane. That really is a stunning sketch. I'm going to print it out and add it to the images in my classroom. I presume he drew it at the Front which makes it even more extraordinary.

The letter from Herbert Eckersly was also so poignant. I was reading it to my wife and she said, 'He's going to die, isn't he?' It all seemed so terribly inevitable.

I can see that the sketch is squared off, David. I wonder if he (or someone) painted a larger version later on.
