temptage Posted 17 February , 2014 Share Posted 17 February , 2014 In Scartho Road Cemetery in Grimsby is this memorial on a family grave for the HACK family As can be seen the family lost 4 sons, Thomas, Charles, Ernest and Robert. From the 3 of the 4 records available on CWGC, they are listed, presumably, in the order of their deaths. Thomas (Tom Richard) born 1887 in Boston, Lincs - died 09/04/1917 Charles (John Charles) born 1882 in Spalding, Lincs - died 11/08/1917 Ernest (Cyril Ernest) born 1897 in Boston, Lincs - died unknown date Robert (John Robert) born 1891 in Skirbeck, Lincs - died 08/06/1941 I cannot find any mention of Ernest, Ernie, Cyril, or Cyril Ernest anywhere, so unless he is another of the forgotten ones, I cannot understand why he is mentioned on the stone as one of those 'LOST AT SEA IN THE TWO GREAT WARS' Any help always appreciated. Phil Evans Posted 17 February , 2014 Share Posted 17 February , 2014 Tony, There is an E and an E H Hack, both showing on the Maritime Deaths Index for 1923, but that is the nearest I can find. I can't find any references to him in ADM or BT. Phil
W.J.Caughey Posted 17 February , 2014 Share Posted 17 February , 2014 Tony Found this chap, maybe close fit. Reference: BT 377/7/92942 Description: Name Hack, Cyril Ernest Place of Birth: Boston, Lincolnshire Number: SD 514 Date of Birth: 26 April 1897 Walter
temptage Posted 18 February , 2014 Author Share Posted 18 February , 2014 Thank you Walter. Just this minute I have found that Cyril Ernest is my man, NOT Ernest William. I have just found out that Ernest William died in 1895, when not even 1 year old. BUT I still cant find anything on Cyril Ernest.......so even though we have changed names.........we are still at a loss with him.

temptage Posted 18 February , 2014 Author Share Posted 18 February , 2014 Thanks for that Terry. Just from dates available on various websites his records only went up until 1924(!!!) but without knowing, that could have been for a variety of reasons, but at least we now know when he died. ClaireLouise Posted 15 July , 2022 Share Posted 15 July , 2022 It's great to see this thread. I have only just discovered my biological family and Cyril would be my granduncle. Thank you Claire
