Hi all,

I had the opportunity to join a very good friend and his schoolkids yesterday and went to Tyne Cot and Langemarck with them. It was quite harsch weather... very hard Wind and then all of the sudden, in the middle of the cemetery..."The Rains Came" ... but it made for some great pictures that I'd like to share with you.

Some more can be found on the FB page of Studio Gadget (that's me...) :

I found the light on the Cross and the city of Ypres in the background here not bad...

Maybe the girl wasn't so far wrong; just as Rupert Brook wrote "There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England" in some ways Langemark is part of Germany. I sometimes think that children see or maybe feel things that we adults have forgotten. Fabulous photographs as ever. Hope your exams went well.

When I went to Langemark with a school party I thought it was the saddest place I had ever been. It was a beautiful July day but the lowering trees and those haunting statues cast a pall over the whole area. I was glad to get out and vowed not to return.

However your beautiful pictures make me want to go again. Thank you for posting, Marilyne (good luck with the exams)

Langemark gave one of our students nightmares the following night. We were told that the trees and use of stone was deliberate, to create a sense of a German forest. Great photo's though. The weather helps, but the skill is in the eye of the photographer.

85 days!?! I hope they make you commander of NATO Western Europe or even Secretary General after that. I'll send you a personal message but don't worry about replying if you are very busy.
