Birmingham Hall of Memory-opening hours?

Paying my first visit to the old home town in a couple of years, Mrs H. and I were extremely impressed by the fabulous new library but disappointed that the Hall of Memory opposite was closed on a Saturday afternoon, despite stated opening times on the outside to the contrary. My recollections from years ago are that whether you could gain access to the Hall at any time was a bit hit and miss but what are the supposed hours of opening these days?

I have checked the Hall of Memory section of the council website and this confirms opening hours on a Saturday of 10am to 4pm. However, It was firmly closed at 2-30 pm when I visited last Saturday. Local government cutbacks?

Mark.

I can tell you for a fact that the website hasn`t been updated for years, and so any information therein cannot be relied upon.

This includes the online Roll of Honour, which was last updated in 2007, and so there is no online record of anyone added since then.

Since I was successful in having my two relatives who were K.I.A. in WW1 added to the Roll of Honour about five years ago, I have sent them one or two emails over the years politely asking when they might be thinking of updating their Online Roll, but have never received even the courtesy of a reply.

Just so you know what you`re up against.

Bit surprised to hear it was closed on a Saturday afternoon, Mark. I've been there twice in recent months, both at that time, and it was open. Perhaps a phone call to the Council is needed - but goodness knows how long it would take to track down the right people.
