Sam_martin82 Posted 15 February , 2014 Posted 15 February , 2014 My Great Grandfather was with 11 Bn Royal Hampshires. A member suggested there may be members with specialist knowledge of that Regiment so if you're out there please contact me? I only know his regiment number, he was 11th Bn Royal Hampshires from his Medal Roll and I have his Medal Index Card. The war diaries unfortunately haven't been digital used. I'm looking to buy the book by C.T Atkinson.
KevinBattle Posted 15 February , 2014 Posted 15 February , 2014 George was entitled to the British War and Victory medals so he wan't in a Theatre of War until after 1915, otherwise he'd have the 1915 Star.
KevinBattle Posted 15 February , 2014 Posted 15 February , 2014 As well as posting in Soldiers, is this an accidental double posting? it seems George was also a PoW. What information do you have on that, when captured, any reminiscences he may have passed on to the family, photos etc?
Sam_martin82 Posted 16 February , 2014 Author Posted 16 February , 2014 Thank you Kevin and Keith. I accidentally posted in POWs instead of Soldiers but couldn't delete that thread. Maybe Admin could help me if they see this. All I know is his name, number 29925, rank Private and his awarded medals from his Medal Index Card. I bought his Medal Roll from National Archives which shows he was with 11 Battalion Hampshires. I've read what it available online from the Long Long Trail and other websites on the 11th Battalions history but it's quite brief. It seems his Service File was lost years ago, possibly during the blitz or a fire at the Archives. I'm trying to piece together his history and movements and hoped someone may have the Hampshires 11th Bn War diaries or could do some sort of look up on Ancestry or other databases maybe. I really don't want the path to end here. I really want to be able to tell my Dad something other than his Grandfather may be in a country but have no idea which areas, battles or anything else. Any help appreciated with thanks.
