Help to understand medal roll book

I'd appreciate some help understanding the attached medal roll book.

My grandfather is Leslie G. Collier number 305955, the last entry on the page.

I'm keen to know where he served. The page has four columns titled "Theatres of war in which served". My grandfather has a O in the first column and a tick in the third column.

Does this give useful information on where he might have served?

Any help is appreciated.

James

Hi James

The attachment is hard to read and I cant find him on Ancestry. Can you give guidance as how to get his page on Ancestry and we can have a better look. But I would say they don't mean anything, just marking off the roll as the SWB are posted out or returned etc. But I want to read the red writing on the RHS.

James, the O and tick do not reliably indicate the theatre of war where he served. They appear to have been used for some office purpose when issuing the medals. The image is very small to see, but does that say Suffolk Yeomanry below his name?

Some movements of the Suffolks are here: http://www.1914-1918.net/suffolkyeo.htm

Robert: the attachment is an image from an original roll and is not on Ancestry.

oops sorry, I thought it was an SWB roll! It does look like Suff. Y. to me. If you click on it you can enlarge it, but then it gets blurrier.

Looks to me like he first served with the Army Service Corps (number looks like ?522 or ?822) in a war zone before the Suffolk Yeomanry.

Later: Medal Card says T/822 ASC and then Corps of Hussars 305955.

Robert, thanks for your response.

The red handwriting on the right hand side says # issue authorised CY/105B.

CY/105B is the page in the medal roll book in the image attached to my earlier post. In the same pen, his regimental number on the left hand side has been modified to add "T" - making the number T/822.

I take the red handwriting to mean that the issue of his medals were authorised under the corrected number of T/822. This is the number stamped on the rime of his Victory Medal.

I'd be grateful for alternative views on the handwritten section.

Attached is a revised image. The soldier in question is Leslie G. Collier (305955 in the first column). I hope this helps.
