ServiceRumDiluted Posted 11 February , 2014 Posted 11 February , 2014 My local war memorial, St. Thomas's in Brampton, Chesterfield, has a Swastika carved into it at the top. Very incongruous at first sight! I know it is an ancient Indian symbol, and it's meaning was in(per)verted by the Nazis, and it was widely used. I have a copy of Just so stories with one on the cover and apparently it was used by Carlsberg as a logo at the time of the great war. My question is really are there any others around? I usually give war memorials more than a cursory glance and this is the first I can remember. Also were any modified after the second war and swastikas removed? I can't see many standing for a swastika on a memorial to WW2 dead! Any others surviving or is it a unique symbol? I'll post some pics if they'd be of interest.
centurion Posted 11 February , 2014 Posted 11 February , 2014 Have you diluted that service rum sufficiently? Seeing double posting!
ServiceRumDiluted Posted 11 February , 2014 Author Posted 11 February , 2014 Apologies for that, fat fingered touchscreen foul up requiring swift editing! Normal service should have been resumed.
