I find myself in need of a WW1 RAMC Officers Cap Badge and I have a number of questions that I hope someone can help me with.

1. Is there a difference between the Officer and OR badge? If so, what?

2. How easy (or difficult) to tell the difference between an original and a reproduction?

3. How much would one be expected pay for an original? A repro?

4. Where would I begin to look for one and what should postage to the States run?

And I guess while I'm asking I should add the same questions about collar and shoulder devices.

Thank you in advance,

Dean

1. As far as I am aware there is no difference between officers/other ranks

2.You really need to handle the badge to get an informed view, but I don't think the RAMC badges are much copied.

3.About £7.00 bronze example

4. Try Clanfieldmilitaria , dealt with them for years, they do not knowingly sell repros..

Postage - need to enquire at the post office, not much I would guess for a small item like a badge.

1, Or's should be in Gilding metal, ie plated brass- or all brass and officers should be Bronze or bronzed brass.

2, all badges are copied/faked, ask for opinions if you do not have the experience or buy from a reputable dealer

3, £5 to £15

4, Clanfield are good -and have a bronze example for £7-, as are Brtton's badges, plenty of reputable sellers out there.

5, postage as already stated a few pounds or slightly more.

Here is an OSD from my collection.

Thanks for the replies. .I just ordered one from Clanfield..

Now that I have that taken care of, what would a Temporary Captain assigned to the 9th Field Ambulance and attached to the Guards Division had as shoulder titles and collar tabs?

Though I might be incorrect in this, but I think he would only wear his OSD collars to the RAMC and would not wear shoulder titles.

Indeed: officers didn't wear shoulder ttiles in WW1 (with the unofficial and occasional exception in Gallipoli and the MEF, according to Stephen J Chambers).

GT.
