Guest TraceyH Posted 10 February , 2014 Posted 10 February , 2014 Hello. I've been trawling through numerous websites & wondered if anyoen could help with any further information? My great grandfather, Herbert Thompson, was born in 1894 in Newington, Kingston Upon Hull & served with the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. We do not have his service number unfortunately, On my grandmother's birth certificate (Lilian Thompson), he is listed as Private, 11th Battalion . . . . living at 55 Walker Street, Hull. So far, I have found 2 H.Thompsons, one died 10/09/1916 & buried at Bazentin-Le-Petit Communal Cemetary, & the other died 09/08/1915, commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Is there any other way, other than joining the 'payable' sites, to find further information on these gentleman? Many Thanks in advance.

ralphjd Posted 11 February , 2014 Posted 11 February , 2014 Charles. Well done, here's me looking for casualties
Guest TraceyH Posted 11 February , 2014 Posted 11 February , 2014 Fantastic, thank you both! I was looking for casualties too, as we were led to believe that he was killed in action. . . . . The mystery continues . . . . Herbert was my father's grandfather & my mother has been struggling to find any more information about him whilst researching the family's history. As my dad has alzheimers, we're having to rely on online records etc. Thank you again for your help & information, we'll keep searching to see what happened to him from 1918 onwards.
