TEW Posted 9 February , 2014 Posted 9 February , 2014 Hope for some clarification for this man's RGA unit on 3/9/18 when he received a GSW to head (mild). In UK he was with 1st Hvy?? Bde. Winchester. Joined the BEF France 8/7/18, just says RGA, BEF. Then a feint addition that might say 147 HB although not sure if it is an H. There is a 147th Heavy Batt. RGA and a 147th Siege Batt. RGA and want to make sure what his unit was before trying to find a war diary. Which I don't think exist for either for this time frame. He was adm to 4th Field Hosp on 3/9/18 and in East Leeds Hosp 7/9/18.ThanksTEW
rflory Posted 10 February , 2014 Posted 10 February , 2014 It appears that you are correct that is '1st Heavy Bde, Winchester and 147th Heavy Battery. You are also correct that there is no war diary for 147th Heavy Battery, RGA at The National Archives.
TEW Posted 10 February , 2014 Author Posted 10 February , 2014 Thanks for that, good to be sure of his unit, bad news about the dairies. Thanks TEW
KONDOA Posted 10 February , 2014 Posted 10 February , 2014 This may help: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=175516 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C7349360 Roop
TEW Posted 11 February , 2014 Author Posted 11 February , 2014 Thanks Roop, Doubt if he'll get a mention but interesting to find where he was when wounded. TEW
ororkep Posted 11 February , 2014 Posted 11 February , 2014 TEW On Sept 2 147 HB suffered a premature on No 1 gun, killing one and wounding three OR’s. The 48 Brigade was in support of operations against the Drocourt-Queant line, and under control of the Canadian Corps. Their 60 pdrs had been brought forward to be in range of the Canal du Nord, and positioned at U3d.8.9 (Sheet 51bSW) in the vicinity of Cherisy. Rgds Paul
TEW Posted 13 February , 2014 Author Posted 13 February , 2014 Paul, Thanks for the additional info, checked what I had and it does say 'WD 2/9/18' and another that says 'GSW, head mild, adm 4 Gen Hosp 3/9/18. The premature may be cause for Rhodes' injury as GSW may not always be gunshot wound or it may thought to be a gunshot wound at the CCS. Thanks TEW
