SueWW Posted 5 February , 2014 Posted 5 February , 2014 Have you seen a small portable Tin Lamp like this? It is part of our collection at Bishop Bonner's Cottage Museum, Dereham, Norfolk. We are wondering if it could date from WW1. It is about 10cm, 2.5 inch across. A tin cone is soldered on to the tin plate, in side the come there is a fleece like material. A the top of the cone there are two small holes which I think is for a pin to hold a wick in place. Does anyone know its date and if it was just used as a light source of for heating something? Can you help?
centurion Posted 6 February , 2014 Posted 6 February , 2014 I have seen something like this before and I think that it was a spirit based device for heating test tubes and the like used where there was no access to mains gas and bunsen burners. As for the period have no idea
