Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 5 February , 2014 Posted 5 February , 2014 Anybody know of a BILCON FARM - or spelling similar to Bilcon ? - On the Somme; probably in the area rearwards from a line between Albert to Mametz, about August 1916. Tom
CROONAERT Posted 5 February , 2014 Posted 5 February , 2014 'Billon Farm'... just under a mile due south of Carnoy? Dave
CROONAERT Posted 5 February , 2014 Posted 5 February , 2014 ... Trenchmap dated 17th August 1916 ......
Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 5 February , 2014 Author Posted 5 February , 2014 Dave - I'm working with some very scrappy notes, but the proximity to Mametz and the fact that the unit I'm looking at had recently been passing supplies towards Longueval makes Billon Farm look very, very, likely. I recon you are correct - thanks. Tom
Chris_Baker Posted 6 February , 2014 Posted 6 February , 2014 Funnily enough I was working on a man's record a few days ago and it refers to him having received treatment at a dressing station at Billon Farm. 30th Division.
Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 6 February , 2014 Author Posted 6 February , 2014 ... it refers to him having received treatment at a dressing station at Billon Farm. 30th Division. Chris - Dressing Station, so not too far from the front but not likely to be subject to artillery fire. The notes I had seen referred to the GOC XV Corps awarding medal ribbons at this farm - to men who's unit was active in the lines of communication at the time. I'm sure Dave is correct and this is the farm. Tom
