George Charles Guy Pike MM. No.6358. 1st Hants. Born Fareham (Portsmouth) Q4 1885.

I am trying to find some missing history in my great uncle's service career. I have him in the 1911 census as a private soldier aged 17 at The Barracks, Winchester.

He has a 1914 Star along with the War and Victory medals so was in France/Belgium early in the war.
At some stage he transferred to 11MGC and won a MM on the first day of the Somme as a machine gunner.

11MGC was formed just before Christmas 1915, so I assume that George had transferred by this time but possibly originaly went to war in the 1st Hants as his Pip, Squeak and Wilfred are for the Hants regiment, but his MM is for MGC.

I would like to be able to get an idea of what he was doing from 1911 to before Dec 1915. I have the 11MGC war diaries so know what he was up to after then up to his death KIA Arras 9 April 1917. (Second wave, aparently his team got caught going through the badly cut wire. He's remembered on the Arras memorial).

Would appreciate any help/information please.

On forces war records got wounded and missing. But probably died same day

My guess is he must have been zapped by shells or something. No grave, just a name at Arras. There were 3 others KIA that day from 11MGC and the war diaries say words to the effect "One of our crews got badly mauled getting through the wire at xxxxxx{map ref}". as there were no more killed that day, it 'must' have included him and some others of his crew. I have their names as well somewhere stashed away and as there was a map ref given, I know to within a few yards where he was killed.
