Tonym Posted 4 October , 2004 Posted 4 October , 2004 Can anybody assist please? I am advised that in York Minster there is a World War I Memorial. I am further advised that on that memorial, on Panel 6, is commemorated a Dorothy Marguerite Inman, QMAAC under "British Committee of the French Red Cross". I have been researching this ladies complicated service history for three years as she is not recorded on the CWGC "Debt of Honour" register. I have now reached a point where the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the M.O.D. have agreed that she died on War Service and should be officially commemorated. If anybody is visiting the Minister I would be most grateful if somebody could photograph the section showing her name for my record. If there is a fee for a photograph pass or any other expenses I will gladly reimburse you. Many thanks, Tony Murphy
Malcolm Posted 4 October , 2004 Posted 4 October , 2004 Pal Jim Strawbridge is your man regarding York Minster panels to the women of WW1. Aye Malcolm
Jim Strawbridge Posted 5 October , 2004 Posted 5 October , 2004 Hello Tonym. You only needed to have asked. I don't know how to add a photo here so I shall send it direct, Jim
Tonym Posted 5 October , 2004 Author Posted 5 October , 2004 Hello Jim I didn't realise that you had a photo just thought you were aware of tge Memorial's existence. However thanks for you Email but as I said in my reply my printer appears not to like yopur picture. I will have to find someone who knows what they are doing. Cheers, Tony

channelhopper Posted 10 October , 2004 Posted 10 October , 2004 Tony I have taken a few photo's for you with my digital camera to go with the one from Jim Strawbridge. It is in a part of the minister which is pretty dark so hope my flash did its job. The program to download the pics is on my pc at work, so will email you tomorrow you. Peter
Tonym Posted 10 October , 2004 Author Posted 10 October , 2004 Thanks Peter, I understand that there is an entrance fee to the Minster so I must be in your debt? Tony
Tonym Posted 10 October , 2004 Author Posted 10 October , 2004 Marc Sorry I missed your posting somehow, did not get the usual Email. However I think that I am now OK but if you cannot stop your 'lass' I will be glad to reimburse her. Tony
channelhopper Posted 10 October , 2004 Posted 10 October , 2004 Tony I hope the images have now been received. Entry to the minster is free to York residents, with a card. Would be interested in reading your research if you are willing to share. Kind regards Peter
Tonym Posted 13 October , 2004 Author Posted 13 October , 2004 Peter Have only just seen your posting for 10th Oct. For some reason I am not receiving advice of postings for this topic. However I propose to do an article for Medal News if I solve this problem. I am hoping that the French Red Cross will confirm that the D.M. Inman on the memorial is Dorothy Marguerite. What confused the issue is that my Dorothy died before the QMAAC (formerly WAAC) was established so I could not accept the QMAAC, D.M.Inman as my Dorothy until I discovered that The Women's Legion were officially absorbed into the WAAC so she could have joined the W.L. and set off for France and was taken ill there. We Will see! Tony
