Kitchener's Bugle Posted 2 February , 2014 Posted 2 February , 2014 Frodsham is an old market town and civil parish in West Cheshire, close to the Mersey Estuary. The war memorial is perched high on Overton Hill overlooking the Mersey Estuary and affording some spectacular views. The memorial itself is a tall stone column. Plaques on the base record those of Frodsham who fell in the two world wars. There are also a set of memorial gates which lead you down a wooded path to the actual monument.
Ron da Valli Posted 2 February , 2014 Posted 2 February , 2014 I've often seen it as I drive past on the M56.Must make the effort to get up there. Those photos and the view look spectacular!!
Kitchener's Bugle Posted 2 February , 2014 Author Posted 2 February , 2014 I had seen it myself on the same road so many times but never got around to seeing it myself. The views are amazing, oh and there's is an oldie world pub half way up!. You can take the car to the top by the way!. Regards KB.
frodsham Posted 5 March , 2014 Posted 5 March , 2014 There are two more War memorials in Frodsham as well as a Church roll of Honour. They all record different sets of names.
Ghazala Posted 5 March , 2014 Posted 5 March , 2014 Excellent photographs. If I am ever up that way I will be sure to visit.
Kitchener's Bugle Posted 5 March , 2014 Author Posted 5 March , 2014 Thanks Ghazala, I happened to stay in Bournemouth a few weeks ago..... seen T E Lawrence's motor bike at Bovington and visited the Royal Signals Museum and the Keep in Dorchester... all well worth a visit and memorable. Great in you neck of the woods for military buffs!. Best Wishes KB.
Fattyowls Posted 5 March , 2014 Posted 5 March , 2014 KB, Spectacular sums it up; great photographs. The Frodsham memorial is one of my favourites partly because of the use of sandstone but mainly because of the views from it. The Triassic sandstone ridge is one of the hidden gems of the north west; Beeston Castle is another excellent location with panoramic vistas. Pete.
Kitchener's Bugle Posted 16 March , 2014 Author Posted 16 March , 2014 I agree Fattyowls, Beeston is an incredible spot...not been there for many a year... thanks for reminding me!
Fattyowls Posted 16 March , 2014 Posted 16 March , 2014 I agree Fattyowls, Beeston is an incredible spot...not been there for many a year... thanks for reminding me! KB, at the risk of going on about the central Cheshire sandstone ridge (my all time favourite Triassic sandstone ridge of all time as Smashy and Nicey would say), there is a pub that does excellent food whose name escapes me at the moment which has similarly good views. Burwardsley is the village if I remember correctly. Pete.
