wulsten Posted 31 January , 2014 Posted 31 January , 2014 Forum member Stephen Nulty has provided some superb information relating to a soldier i have been researching, the information has revealed that the soldier Myles Jackson 7216 was repatriated from Germany (believe wounded POW) to Wandsworth Hospital during August 1915, will the digitised red cross records reveal any further info, and is there any estimate when they will be available, also hoping against all odds is there any other sources which may give info of his repatriation etc, anything appreciated, Geoff
harlton Posted 1 February , 2014 Posted 1 February , 2014 Hi, My Granfather was re-patriated too, He was Private A. C. Shoard, of the 1st London Div, he was part of an advance and a sudden withdrawal, He was left in the dying racks, by our forces, and operated on by a German Dr who had run out of anesthetic, but offered to try and save his life, by removing his lung with the shrapnel. He decided to go for it, but was left very weakened and was finally re-patriated by the Red cross. I cannot find any records of it. They should exsist as he received his pension and my Gran got her widows pension, until she died in 1997, and my Grandad died in 1948. He never fully recovered from his wounds and suffered on-going illness, following the infection as a result of the wound. These are his details :- Medal card of Shoard, AlbertCorps Regiment No RankLondon Regiment 8923 PrivateLondon Regiment 204456 Private I Know he was repatriated by the red cross but cannot find any details, I have his medals cards etc, that's it, It doesn't even mention which Group he was in of the 1st london which would be nice to know. We lived in Ash grove Rd, Hackney, known locally as the grove I saw that a company or whatever was signed up there. Red cross was a dead end. any other suggestions would be great, bearing in mind I am in Canada. Regards Ian
