Mule Depots Indian Army

Ladies/Gents,

From the scant information, I`ve been able to piece together, I`m trying to identify were the various Mule Corps Depots used by the Indian Army were located. I assume that they moved depending on which theatre they were deployed to, but I am hoping to be able to follow they various movements? Can anyone help? I`ve also learned that they were identified by letters and numbers, how many were there?

Gordon.

My strong suggestion is that you buy a copy of The British Mule in the British Army and Indian Army written by Nichols, Malins and Macfetridge (British Mule Society 2006).

I have noted several of your recent posts, over the recent few days, concerning the Indian Army.

Many of your questions (including the above) can be answered in Chris Kempton's "A Register of Titles of the Units of the HEIC and Indian Armies, 1666 - 1947" and (or) John Gaylor's "Sons of John Company". The latter is certainly still available via Amazon but you may need to contact the Indian Military Historical Society (http://imhs.org.uk/index.html) to try and obtain Chris's publication. Alternatively, you could always ask your local library to obtain them.

I would also recommend downloading the Indian Army List 1921 which will give you unit locations

Unfortunately, (and to my annoyance) much of my personal library is in storage, and I cannot get easy access, otherwise I would have tried to help further.

Thanks Harry, sounds like just what I`m after, but obtaining a copy has proved somewhat elusive!

I will add that I have found Chris Kempton's "A Register of Titles of the Units of the HEIC and Indian Armies, 1666 - 1947" a really useful publication especially where it comes to units such as the Mule Corps Depots and also the various post WW1 title changes.

The locations of the Mule Depots etc will be shown in the Army List (by the way, it took me a while to download my copy!)
