Canadian Service Records to go Online

Recommended Posts

I see from Chris Paton's 'The British Genes Blog' http://britishgenes.blogspot.co.uk/ that Canadian Service Records are to be digitised, with the first batch {Initials A-D} to be released this summer. All other records to be released by next year. These records are to be free to Canadians. As for the rest of us, we'll just have to wait and see. More info here http://genealogycanada.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/new-flash-library-and-archives-canada.html.

Good stuff, seems only us Brits have to pay to see servicemen records and diaries.

Will keep my eyes out then - have a Canadian chap's records to get hold of - surname Eaglestone so shouldn't have too long to wait?

Thanks for the heads up Alf McM.

Hi,

Last time I looked surnames letters A to D are now fully available for download.

In addition LAC have uploaded those files beginning with other letters that had been requested in digital format under the previous payment scheme.

Contrary to comments above the files are available free to users worldwide.

See below link.

It might be worth checking online. I had paid for my G-Uncle's records some years ago and they're now available online ...for free. Same place as the attestation papers.

[Oops snap...though I had paid for the paper equivalent...Difficult to tell if Borrow's records are there because I requested them or because he's in the first part of the alphabet]

Thanks for that folks.

I keep checking the LAC blog but there doesn't seem to be the updates promised.

I'm waiting for a Robert Fettes.
