grahamnewman Posted 27 January , 2014 Share Posted 27 January , 2014 Pte. A Turner 15200 2nd Battalion K.S.L.I. France - Balkans On 30.09.1918 the war ended north of Doiran, Macedonia. 2 KSLI absorbed the war-raised 8th Battalion in November 1918, after service at Batum on the Black Sea they were then sent to Southern Turkey. They were in Turkey from Dec. 1918 until June 1919, protecting oil supplies in the face of the Russian Civil War they turned to UK June 1919. Back in Worcester during December, Arthur’s Wife Ellen Jane and children were threatened with eviction from their home, the war in France was over November 1918 and the troops had returned home and most were back to work. Arthur was still away and his boss said as Arthurs house was a tied holding and he was not back to work Arthur and family should leave so he could rent the place to some one who was available! It must have been traumatic for her, husband away for nearly 5 years in the Bloody Theatre that was France and Salonika/Balkans, not knowing when or if he would return. KSLI eventually settled the matter for Arthurs wife, Arthur moved on soon after his return! Tommy this and Tommy that and Tommy go away , But it’s thank you Mr Turner when the drum begins to play! It would seem that because of the War Department's wish to keep it low key, the lack of 'publicity' and knowledge being issued to the British public with regard to the slaughter and health conditions in the Balkans was nil. Even now it seems to be the 'forgotten 'War' Graham
