Guest birdflightless Posted 2 October , 2004 Posted 2 October , 2004 Hi All, I have recently bought an Album, about 12cm x 18cm, and in are the signatures of 16 soldiers. I haven't been able to read all of them but if anybody recognises any of the following men or where the 'hospital' might be situated, I would be very grateful to learn more. There is also a colour drawing of a street scene in Sonning-on-Thames, by G.M. Mace 1916. The names that I can read are; Lt. James A. ?ately, 15th North. Fus. Wounded at La Boiselle - 1/7/16 2/Lt. C. B. Dicks. 1st Newfoundland Reg. Wounded - 1/7/16 Lt. M.A. Bright, R.E. Capt. Etric C. Smith, 9th East Surrey Reg. Lt. J. McAvoy, 2nd West Indian Reg. Lt. J.A. House, 3rd Canadian M.G. Company, wounded right arm, - Ypres 16/7/16 R.E. Newton H.G. Fagg, 9/4/17 Charles Macarthy, 16/1/19 A.B. Bexon, 20th Bat. R. Fusiliers U.P.S - POW 20/7/16 - dated 23/2/19 Charles Russell Bailey Chrisman, 12th Lancs, Fusiliers. wounded Salonika. Most of the men listed have written a small 'ditty' or a few words of wisdom, if any one is interested in any of the above I can of course help further. What I would really like is to identify the whereabouts of the institution that these guys were in, if at all pos. Thanks Stewart
Paul Nixon Posted 5 October , 2004 Posted 5 October , 2004 Stewart Well, you are looking for an officer's hospital which makes life a good deal easier. You could try accessing some of the patients' service records at the National Archives and you may find reference to the hospital in those. You will however, certainly find out more information about the men and the wounds or sickness that caused them to be hospitalised. Paul
