Found a Walter Stanford served as number 491 POW South Lancs between 1908-1910 he was a platelayer, can I find him on any census - can I eckerslike :angry2:

Its definately John A Blair so don't think one and same.

Yea problem I've been having on census. Doesn't help sometime with Ancestry mis transcribing details on some records either

JOHN JAMES 1/7th Lancashire Fusiliers 201951 born and enlisted in Bury kia 23-10-1918 a railway engine stoker.

Joseph Parkinson 10th Lancs Fus 28500 kia 12-5-1917 born 1879 Salford . 1911 census = general carter 1901 census = carter for the railway , think this is your man. Ralph.

Thanks Ralph. Not too sure about John Jones as he's a Clerk so strange to go from an engine stoker . Generally the more educated lads became clerks, not saying that John wasn't educated but they tended to go straight into an administrive job

BLAIR could be John ROBERT Blair b 1892 a wagon booker on railway kia 14-11-1916 18th Manchesters number 26338

Your right again, Looking at photo of original memorial it is John R Blair. Its the LNWR roll of honour on lnwr.org.uk that has him as J A Blair

How about ROBERT MCKENZIE 26508 6th Batt Border Regt born,enlisted and resided Manchester kia 19-8-1917 (SDGW) and Robert McKenzie born 1888 Manchester resided 11 Hadfield St Butler St Ancoats in 1911 a nipper on a railway company.

Could be - THOMAS MASSEY 251491 1/6th Batt Manchesters kia 2/9/1918 born 1896 son of Thomas Massey resided 57 South St Longsight he was a railway porter, as was his dad. Ralph.

Found a Frank TURNER b1894 Manchester a boarder and a railway booking clerk , cannot match him to Frank Turner 11th Batt L Fs kia 21-10-1916 though for certain.

That should read L & N W Railway but that's a good find :)
