Hi all, I posted here some time ago to try and find my great-grandfathers service records as nobody in the family knew where, when or with which regiment he served with.

I established, thanks to the help of people here that he was a Lancashire fusileers but he is either one of the below: (Also shown in my profile photo)

J. Foster - 300120 (service record found)

Or

J. Foster - 242211 (no service record but wounded records found) wounded twice Nov and Dec 1917.

The trouble I have now is that I don't know which of the above he is? I'd appreciate any help how I might find which of the two he is.

Does the one with service record have an address on the bottom of the MiC or on the attestation form, if there is one, in his file, that may be familiar?

Did they both survive?

I believe the original number of 242211 may have been Joseph Foster 12337. The think he may have been renumbered and his new LF number is not recorded on his Medal Index Card and he is down as 12337 only and then MGC.

12330 was renumbered to 242205.

12323 was renumbered to 242198.

12316 was renumbered to 242191.

There are multiple other examples.
