Minishawsi Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 HI, I am trying to find out who was in charge of the 8th Division Royal Field Artillery 3rd Battery on the 24th May 1918. I was looking at a commendation for Henry Slarney but the signature was smudged and it is unreadable. If anyone could tell me who it was it would be much appreciated. Thanks,
sotonmate Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 M 3 Battery was part of 45 Brigade RFA of 8 Division. The War Diary will show who was i/c of the Battery. Ref WO95/1694/2 and just missed out on the digital issue this week,so a visit to Kew or some kind and knowledegable RA person here may be able to help.
rflory Posted 17 January , 2014 Posted 17 January , 2014 The OC of 3rd Battery, XLV Brigade, RFA on 23 March 1918 was Major D'A. V. Carden, DSO. On 11 November 1918 it was Major C. W. Cripps, DSO; not sure, which, if either, was OC on 24 May 1918. Dick Flory
11kilo Posted 30 May , 2014 Posted 30 May , 2014 Hello: My notes show that Major Carden was posted to 425 Battery, 44th Brigade at the end of March 1918. I hope this helps. Cheers Andy NB Dick: Source is Major Carden's papers
