mutley Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 Can anyone tell me where the above unit was at the end of Jan and the begining of Feb 1916. I am researching a slodier who was killed in action and is buried in Menin Road South. Any info appreciated, believe that the Bn was part of 24 Div 72 Bde. Originally raised as a K3 Bn and moved to France Sept 1915. Thanks mutley
GraemeClarke Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 Hi Mutley The Regimental History is here (Chapter 10) http://www.janetandrichardsgenealogy.co.uk/QORWK%20C%20T%20Atkinson.html It may assist, Regards, Graeme
nigelcave Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 The Battalion has a very good history (relatively unusual for a single battalion). If you could be more specific about the date involved I can let you know what it says; for the end of January/ early February it says that the battalion was on the left of the left part of the Hooge sector.
CROONAERT Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 Pretty sparse War Diary entries for Jan and Feb 1916 .... Dave
mutley Posted 16 January , 2014 Author Posted 16 January , 2014 Thank you all the chap I am researching was killed on 19 Feb 1916 so I am presuming killed by shell fire. Thanks again Mutley
CROONAERT Posted 17 January , 2014 Posted 17 January , 2014 Probably... that was the day that the reserve dugouts got badly hit in a bombardment. However, it was also the day that the Sanctuary Wood trenches were taken over so it's pretty difficult to be certain. Dave
mutley Posted 17 January , 2014 Author Posted 17 January , 2014 Dave my chap is buried in Menin Road South and was a Cpl when killed, sadly like a lot of others his records dont survive. Thanks for posting Mutley
