Guest john larmouth Posted 15 January , 2014 Posted 15 January , 2014 My grandfather is buried in Kemmel Chateu Military Cemetry. The War Diary (225th Field Company Royal Engineers) record that he was killed by a German Bomb dropped on Pompier Camp on 15.10.17 and buried the following day. Whilst presumably Pompier Camp was in the vicinity of Kemmel I am attempting to to trace its exact location, so far without success. Any suggestions would be appreciated.JOHN
CROONAERT Posted 15 January , 2014 Posted 15 January , 2014 Just south of La Clytte on the road to Kemmel ( 'Kim Road' - now the N304). See below... Dave
Guest john larmouth Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 Many thanks for this information Dave. I now have the exact time 7.10pm on 15.10.17 when my grandfather was killed in a German air raid on Pompier Camp. The details of your information on location now mean that I can probably place his exact location of death to within a hundred yards or so as I know he was in a hut when killed. I feel another visit to Flanders beckons this year. I think such detail on the death of a "other ranks" He was a second corpral in the Royal Engineers, is quite unusual
Guest grahampc1272collins Posted 9 August , 2014 Posted 9 August , 2014 Hi John My grandfather Herbert Saunders was injured at Pompier Camp on 13/10/17 and died of his injuries on 15/10/17. I have a copy of the Captains war diary for this day obtained by my father, Herbert's son, from the Publics Record Office reference WO95/2576. A detailed map of the time was also sent to my father of which I have but it is A3 and I cannot copy it for you currently. In the diary above the detail of my Grandfather is reference to your Grandfather Corp. WG Larmouth killed this day together with 3 others, Clarke, Blair, Saunders, 24 were wounded.
