John Gilinsky Posted 12 January , 2014 Share Posted 12 January , 2014 Having yesterday just view the online availability of the Irish Honour Roll specifically that was produced in 1923 in 8 volumes and that forms the basis if not exclusively of this modern online searchable db I am starting this particular thread in "Reference Books" as the best single sub-topic currently on the GWF for the following purposes: 1) Preliminary assessment(s) by anyone of newly published, printed, limited editions, subscription services, online, databases, electronically stored dbs/information/facts/records, websites, etc....for veracity, comprehensiveness of inclusion, accuracy, coverage, validity, etc... of the modern or newly offered source of information for researchers; 2) Additions, corrections, supplements DIRECTLY related to the theme, subject, time period etc... of the newly available work whatever its form - that is: misspellings, alternative spellings, differing birth/death dates, amplification of military service(s), factual corrections; 3) Comparison with other current/modern all forms of information / facts anywhere in the world and in any medium source etc.... This also includes cross-cultural, multi-lingual, cross-lingual, bi-lingual, tri-lingual, multi-media, sources; 4) Shopping around for different or alternate sources such as a) free rather than for pay; lesser charge(s) than stated/requested; c) institutionally availability for very low cost and/or free; 5) Alternative, different, innovative uses / applications for the available information/facts made available such as new interpretations, cross-cultural comparisons, different perspectives, etc....; 6) Modern, online and/or electronic REVIEWS, CRITICISMS, EDITORIALS, about the newly available work(s); 7) Modern in-print and/or published REVIEWS, CRITICISMS,.....; 8) SOURCES of 1) through 7) above plus any other RELEVANT information of any kind/source. This thread should be a central collecting point so that the deluge prompted by the centenary "reprints" / "republication" / new projects can be far more easily understood, used, etc.... by all.
