Remembered Today:

12th South Staffordshire (Labour Battalion)

Recommended Posts

The Battalion was apparently sent to France in June 1916, where they moved to support the Fifth Army. It seems that they might have been based in or near Rouen.

Does anyone know more precisely what this Battalion might have been involved in or what other French towns they might have been working near between 1916 and 1917? I would be grateful for any information as I am trying to advise a person who wishes to take his elderly father on a motor tour, tracing his grandfather's route in WW1.

No War Diary apparent for either 12 South Staffordshire Regiment or 12 South Staffordshire Labour Battalion on the NAs Discovery database. May be something under 5th Army, possibly under the titles that it operated in 1917,viz. 26 and 27 Labour Companies, Labour Corps.
