7:29am Posted 8 January , 2014 Posted 8 January , 2014 Hi Everyone.........it has been ages since i last logged on!! Happy new yr. I have been looking at a casualty from the 1st Bn Coldstream Guards. He is stated to have died of wounds on the 17/5/18 at Cassel POW camp If the wounds were not incurred at the camp i guess they must have been sustained shortly before he was captured. I know the German offensive was still going, but can anyone help me in the period end of mid April to early May where the battalion may have been? Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Jim
sotonmate Posted 8 January , 2014 Posted 8 January , 2014 The 1 CG War Diary is digital and downloadable for £3.36,running from 1914 to 1919.Ref on the Discovery database of the NA is WO95/1219. The unit was last in battle at ARRAS on 28 March 1918,though the Germans were busy advancing all over the place so the Diary will be the best place to look.
Coldstreamer Posted 10 January , 2014 Posted 10 January , 2014 a roll I have confirms he died of wounds there - nothing I can add sorry but likely captured in March 1918
