Hi

Hoping someone with some greater knowledge than me can assist with a small problem

Researching Lt. Oscar Cecil Lawrence HUGHES, RAMC attached 2nd King's Africa Rifles.

His papers are here (not that it helps me much).

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/details?Uri=C1129612

CWGC and SDGW give his date of death as Saturday 18 August 1917.

This most excellent site

http://www.kaiserscross.com/188001/452201.html

details the movements of the battalion and clearly records Oscar being killed about a month later, ie September 1917.

I was wondering if anyone has researched Oscar previously and has any knowledge on this, or does anyone by any quirk of the imagination have the War Diary

which may detail his passing.

Many thanks,

Graeme

The site you've linked to is Harry's (aka Bushfighter on this forum) contribution and I'd suggest a PM to him will sort you out.

It would appear that his dates are a month out, I think he's inadvertently put September instead of August as the action at Nurunyu was definitely on the 18th August 1917.

Steve

That would answer everything, never thought to check his dates.

Many thanks for replying and sorting it out for me,

Graeme

You lads are right - I was wrong. Narunyu was in August not September.

No excuses for this (but try reading the closely-typed WO 161/75 !)

I'll try harder next time. Harry
