Hi just got myself a trio to above as he is remembered at Caberet-Rouge Souchez close to where my Gt Uncle died.

Can anyone pinpoint where this man was when killed around 14/9/16?

I don't generally follow topic every topic - I'd presumed you'd get in touch by PM. Please see below:

6-14 Sept: 'X Y Z 37 TM Battery fire 1290 bombs at enemy front line wire at points S.15.a.1.2, S15.c.3.6, S14.d.6.5, S15.c.4.7, S15.c.2.7, the wire was completely cut at three points and enemy front line trenches ...[word?].. untenable.'

Under casualties:

14/9/16 No 82183 Bdr Simmons J and 57190 Gnr Anderson F killed by direct hit on emplacement by 5.9 shell.

Re the map references, anyone help with where this was?

By my reckoning these are mostly locations south of Momber Crater on Vimy Ridge (one seems to be behind the British front line). These are pretty much where Petit Vimy Cemetery is now near the motorway.

The batteries were in support of 9th Division at the time and they were softening up the Germans prior to a trench raid by 8th Black Watch and 5th Camerons.
