jp1885 Posted 1 January , 2014 Posted 1 January , 2014 Firstly, happy new year! Thanks to you helpful folks, I've a lot of information on a great uncle (by marriage) William Clark - Now I have discovered that he met my great aunt Lily (sometimes Lilian) Emily Jones while he was in the AIF, which got me wondering if Lily was also in the services at the time. Lily was born in 1894 at Grendon Bishop, Herefordshire and in the 1911 census was working as a servant in Hereford. She and William were married in Australia in 1921 and she passed away in 1984. A search of the WO documents in TNA brings up two possibilities, a Lilian Jones in the QAIMNS (WO 399/4414) and a Lily Jones in the QMAAC (WO 372/23/22600). I've downloaded both records and can discount Lilian as she was born in North Wales. This leaves the other record - an MIC (attached). A search on Ancestry and FWR comes up with nothing, so is there amy way of finding any more information on this Lily Jones, or at least finding out if she was my great aunt? (Assuming the medal rolls do not give birthplace etc.)
CGM Posted 1 January , 2014 Posted 1 January , 2014 At the bottom of the card you can see she had a Silver War Badge. A search for Lily Jones on Ancestry HERE will find her entry. No instant solution to your problem, but there are enlistment and discharge dates and confirmation she served abroad. CGM
jp1885 Posted 1 January , 2014 Author Posted 1 January , 2014 Ah thanks, I wasn't sure how to find SWB records, so this'll be be very useful!
CGM Posted 1 January , 2014 Posted 1 January , 2014 Ancestry didn't seem able to incorporate the SWB records into their full-blown database, when they introduced them. THIS is the link to the search page. CGM
jp1885 Posted 3 January , 2014 Author Posted 3 January , 2014 (edited) A distant cousin has just come up with an interesting tidbit - Lily apparently met William on Salisbury Plain. She was with her sister, Florence Dora Jones, who also met a soldier who later died - she never married. Edited 3 January , 2014 by jp1885
