Hello,

Stewards in the Royal Navy today primarily assist the first aid party (and sometimes other roles) during action stations. was this the same during the First World War? Or did it differ from ship to ship?

Many thanks in advance for any help that I might recieve.

Scott

From Article 612 of the King's Regulations and Admiralty Instructions, 1913:

"Officers' Stewards, Cooks and Servants are to be excused from the ordinary duties of the ship, but they are to be stationed at quarters and drilled at fire quarters and fire brigade duties."
